Cromar History Group

About this Organisation

Cromar History Group (CHG) based in Aberdeenshire, is a lively group of people with a common interest in learning about, preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Tarland & the surrounding area. It is our aim to share what we learn and make it accessible to everyone who might want to know more about Cromar’s fascinating past. The group was initiated in 1993 & our aims are to:
• arrange events, visits and speakers
• become active in local studies, surveys, conservation and archaeology
• raise public awareness of our local heritage
• collect, record and store information, objects and documents of local relevance
• publish appropriate records, reports and guides
CHG organises the following activities:
• Talks: a winter’s series of Thursday evening talks open to everyone
• Members' Meetings: additional discussion meetings for members
• 'Oot n'Aboot': summer visits to places of local interest for members
• Echoes: an annual publication of articles on local history
• On-line Archive: a collection of documents, pictures and artefacts from the Cromar area, donated to CHG
over the years, now all on a data base.
