This topic relates to a recently published book and consists of two parts. It begins with genealogical narrative that encapsulates life in coalmining villages coupled with emigration. The second part contains reminiscnences and experiences of tenement life, 1950s/60s schooling and adolescent high jinks.

Child Health in Scotland
Description of talk: 

This is the story of Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Sick Children, its founding in a Garnethill townhouse, its relocation to Yorkhill, and its evacuation in the mid-1960s when ther Yorkhill hospital was found to be in danger of collapse. It is a story of the resilience of children and families in the face of life-changing medical circumstances. In addition to acknowledging a range of committed medical professionals, it is a tribute to the dedication of selfless paediatric nurses who began their careers by being thrown in at the deep end.
