Battle of the Atlantic Museum, Loch Ewe
About this Organisation
Pool House is a 350 year old former Mackenzie hunting and fishing lodge which was visited by Winston Churchill in September 1939 and was subsequently requisitioned as the Royal Navy Command Headquarters for the convoy that departed from here across the North Atlantic, Arctic, Icelandic, Gibraltar and Sierra Leone. Approximately 400 ships were gathered in the Loch daily. In addition to the Admiralty staff here, we also were designated the Highland Fieldcraft Training Centre under the Command of Lord Rowallan who trained young army officers in extreme winter conditions.
The house has a large collection of very rare WW2 artefacts, both British and German, together with many original uniforms, film footage and photographs. Our museum is open to the public and in addition we have a WW2 themed cafe serving some authentic recipes of the time and with 50’s background music. Our gift shop has a wide variety of items for all ages and a comprehensive selection of WW2 books.
