Pioneering Spirit whisky project nominated for Archaeology Award
News
Over the last four years the National Trust for Scotland archaeology team, in partnership with The Glenlivet, have been undertaking research into the history and archaeology of early whisky making in Scotland. We have surveyed and excavated illicit whisky bothies at Torridon, Mar Lodge, Ben Lawers and Ben Lomond. In addition we have been investigating the site of the original distillery of The Glenlivet which was set up in George Smith's farm at Upper Drumin, Glenlivet, in 1824 and operated until 1859. We are delighted that our project has been nominated for a Current Archaeology Award for 2025 under the category of Best Research Project. The winner is decided by public vote, and if you would like to find out more please follow the link below and vote before 10th February - https://archaeology.co.uk/vote
