THE MYSTERY REVEALED - AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY
DOORS OPEN 7PM / TALK STARTS AT 8:00pm / MEALS SERVED FROM 5PM
Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham (Don Roberto), was co-founder of the Scottish Labour Party (the forerunner of the modern Labour Party), and was the founding president of the Scottish National Party.
He advocated abolition of the House of Lords, declared himself the first socialist member of parliament, and was imprisoned for rioting.
But that’s only part of the amazing story about the eccentric laird of Gartmore – a man whose life George Bernard Shaw considered was 'an achievement so fantastic that it would never be believed in a romance'.
He was an expert horseman and rode with gauchos. He searched for Roman gold in Spain. He was held to ransom by a warlord in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
This is the remarkable but forgotten story about one of the most important and influential romantic figures in Scottish History.
