1820 - Balfron Radicals Exhibition
When & Where
Event Details
This exhibition will be mounted in Balfron Library during normal library hours. (A limit of 10 persons at a time in the venue still exists!).
Delayed from March 2020, the exhibition traces the village's role in the rise and demise of the Scottish Insurrection: from the people’s reaction to the Peterloo Massacre in Manchester in 1819, to the rout of the Radicals at Bonnymuir and the subsequent show trials and executions of the leaders of the rising. The Balfron story of Moses Gilfillan has a particularly ironic twist in the United States of America which we shall not spoil be revealing here.
