NLS ‘An Comunn Gàidhealach’ Publications

About this Resource

A collection of digitised items from the National Library’s collections, published by An Comunn Gàidhealach, the organisation which promotes Gaelic language and culture and organises the Royal National Mòd. Dating from 1891 up to the present day, the collection includes journals and newspapers, annual reports, educational materials, national Mòd programmes and published Mòd literature. Journals include An Deo Greine and An Gaidheal, both of which include much local, Scottish education and Gaelic history as well as Gaelic news, music, literature and folklore. The collection of Mòd programmes dates from the second Mòd in 1892 to the present, though the set is incomplete. Programmes include lists of competitors as well as lists of prize-winners.
The digital content, which is in Gaelic or English, can be browsed and searched by both names and keywords.
The Library holds more An Comunn publications, including music. These are not yet digitised but can be identified using the Library’s catalogue (see https://www.nls.uk/catalogues) and read in the reading rooms in George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.
