Strachur & District Local History Society
About
Based in the village of Strachur on the Eastern shore of Loch Fyne, the Strachur & District Local History Society have been gathering information about the history of the region since the formation of the society in 2007. Thanks to our generous supporters we have amassed an archive of images and documents spanning c. 150 years which have formed the basis of our open days and exhibitions. We host regular talks on a wide variety of historical subjects; published a book about the gravestones of Strachur; hold the Old Parish Records for Strachur and Strathlachlan; assist anyone searching their family connections to these villages; and our members are actively engaged in archaeological projects.
Our interest encompasses the wider region of the districts of Strachur from St Catherine's and Cairndow in the north to Glendaruel, Colintraive and Kilfinnan heading south into the Cowal Peninsular. We include local primary schools in our activities wherever appropriate. We aim to promote a sense of place within our own community and connection with other communities through their own local history groups.
