The Scottish Landed Estate has been very much neglected as a conference theme. Yet up to 1700 90% of the Scottish population spent their whole lives on estates. From 1200 until the early 20th century estates dominated the economic, social and even the political lives of Scots and by 1750 were the agents of massive economic change.
