About this item
Author/Editor: David Prince Miller, edited by Martin MacGilp, based on the 2nd Edition circa 1856.
With a 100-page essay by Martin MacGilp.
David Prince Miller was a showman, involved in a range of exhibitions and theatricals. His record of achievements veered between being a moderately successful theatrical manager, and a bankrupt, who spent some time in debtor’s jail. He toured throughout the UK, but had a long association with Glasgow and Glasgow Fair during its glory years.
Throughout his long professional life, he continued to return to some of his core skills, which included conjuring, Punch and Judy, and marionettes. Miller’s account of his life, largely as a travelling showman, has been out of print for over 150 years.
This publication brings together Miller’s lively text, a new essay on Miller and his life, and additional information on his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren, particularly those who became involved with theatricals.
The book has been fully-indexed, has a genealogical chart, and 39 illustrations, some of which are being published for the first time.
