The Auld Alliance: Airs of France, Graces of Scotland. 17th cent Scottish and French Music
A candle lit concert of 17th cent Scottish and French music at Rosslyn Chapel.
This will be a rare and special evening with the Chapel lit by candlellight as it would have been when the music was composed.
The music is beautiful and haunting and explores the continuing links between the Scots and the French.
Scottish lute music has had a recent revival and discovery, much of it traditional. French airs were very popular in the period and the one influenced the other.
The music is sung by Elspeth McVeigh, a Scottish native who returns to her homeland whenever she can. Eric Thomas is a young Edinburgh lute and theorbo player with a particular interest in Scottish music.
