Forth and Clyde Canal Society
About this Organisation
The Forth and Clyde Canal society was formed by a group of canal enthusiasts who felt that the decline in the Forth and Clyde canal in the 1960's should be reversed.
They believed this historical feature which crossed central Scotland could be put to use for the benefit of local communities. They highlighted their ideas to local authorities and British Waterways (Scotland) as well as national authority. Working in partnership they achieved their goal in having the canal re-opened.
The Society continues to promote the Forth and Clyde Canal through Boat Trips, History led Canal Walks and History/Heritage Presentations. We have an strong membership and also a group of volunteers who crew and maintain our boats on the canal all with an aim to keep the canal open and usable for everyone.
