Society for One-Place Studies
About this Organisation
The vision of the Society is to bring together individuals, societies and groups who are researching the people of a community within the context of the place in which they live. Drawing on the skills and techniques of family and local history, we provide a platform for members to share good practice, ideas and methodology in one-place studies, as well as promote the research being undertaken on their study area [1].
Founded in 2013, the Society is run by volunteers in order to advance the education of the public in one-place studies. Information and resources [2] are available to all, though members will have access to a wide range of enhanced benefits including free monthly webinars [3], our quarterly journal, Destinations, and a range of discounts on other services.
The Society welcomes members from around the world with an interest in one particular place, whether it is a house, street, institution, hamlet, settlement, village, town or parish. Registering a study area (or areas) is optional, though recommended if members are active in their research. There are currently 12 registered studies in Scotland.
