Clydebank Local History Society

About

The Society was founded in 1977. Its aim is to create greater awareness of the history, culture and heritage of Clydebank and to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity and historic interest.

A series of illustrated talks is held from October to March on the first and third Monday of the month in the Dalmuir Barclay Church at 7.30 p.m.

Each year the Society aims to organise a bus outing to a place of historical interest. This normally takes place in May and usually provides a guided tour of a historic site such as a castle, historic building or museum followed by a visit to a town where members and friends are free to follow their own agenda. The Society also organises outings, usually twice a year, to local places of interest when members use their own or public transport.

The Society actively encourages the preservation of objects and information which will help future generations to understand their heritage. It seeks to intervene when this heritage is threatened.
