Event Details

The 2017 guided walks commenced on 20th January and continue on 3rd February and 24th February. Aya Iguchi Sherry is leading a walk based on her project, Sounds of Maryhill. This is a discovery walk which relies on our senses to tell the story of Maryhill by exploring the relationship between people, sound, place, heritage and everyday life in this interactive guided walk. Using recorders provided, walkers are welcome to participate in capturing Maryhill’s heritage by recording sounds throughout the local area, which they feel represent their surroundings. The captured sounds will be synchronised onto a sound map which will then be available to view and continue to be added to on the Burgh Halls' website.

Maryhill Burgh Halls is an event venue and local heritage site in North West Glasgow. The Trust runs regular guided walks on a number of themes from general local history to themed women’s history walks. We teamed up with Maryhill Health Centre’s arts strategy team in Autumn 2016 to offer health and wellbeing guided walks with pop up art performances and we're delighted to continue working with the health centre in 2017.

If you’d like to join the walk please see the details below:

Maryhill Health Centre’s Health Walks commenced in Autumn 2016 to encourage health centre users and local community members to make more use of the local canal and river walkways around Maryhill. Participating walkers are encouraged to explore the area, enjoy the therapeutic creative elements of the pop up art and benefit from the health and wellbeing of active travel.
