Event Details

Blackwell's Bookshop is delighted to host the launch of The Scottish Clearances: A History of the Dispossessed, 1500-1900, the latest book by T.M. Devine.

This book is the result of around four decades of thinking, research, writing and teaching by Professor Emeritus Sir Tom Devine and is the first ever attempt in one volume to consider ‘ the clearances ’ as a process affecting all of rural Scotland.

Sir Tom himself considers this as his most challenging project to date. Others who have read the advance text think it might come to be regarded as Devine’s magnum opus.

An expert panel of Magnus Linklater, Neal Ascherson and Catriona MacDonald will discuss the findings of the book with the author. This will be followed by an audience Q&A, and a book signing.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the venue.
