Scottish Jewish Archives Centre

About this Organisation

The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre (SJAC) is dedicated to preserving Scotland's Jewish heritage. Since 1987 the Centre has been collecting historic material relating to the experiences of Jewish people in Scotland over the past 200 years. SJAC documents, preserves, exhibits and publishes aspects of the collections and makes the collections available for education, academic research, tourists and visitors of all kinds. SJAC welcomes research enquiries and visitors and organises regular Open Days and events.

SJAC collects a wide range of material, including old synagogue minute books and registers, membership lists, over 6,000 photographs, oral history recordings, annual reports of many communal organisations, a small library of books of Scottish Jewish interest, friendly society regalia, personal papers, war medals, ceremonial keys, newspapers, magazines, trophies, plaques, paintings and sculptures.
